David Moyes’s West Ham United have held talks over signing Aston Villa target Jan Bednarek from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.
The Sun have reported this afternoon that West Ham have been discussing signing Bednarek on loan from Southampton before the window closes this week.
The Hammers have earmarked the Poland international centre-back as a potential replacement for Craig Dawson.
Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers both have approached West Ham over signing defender Dawson, according to The Sun.
The report has added that the Saints could let Bednarek leave, but they would want ‘any agreement to include an option or obligation to buy, considering the defender has a contract until 2025’.

West Ham reportedly making an approach for Bednarek so late in the summer transfer window will come as a blow for Villa.
That’s because the Villans have also been linked with the £60,000-a-week (SalarySport) 26-year-old.
It was only last week when well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that Villa were “optimistic” of signing Bednarek.
Suddenly it seems that there has been a twist.
Bednarek has been on the books of Southampton since 2017.
The 26-year-old has scored seven goals and created four big chances in 133 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
