West Ham United have been offered the chance to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah after Harry Maguire’s move collapsed.

Jonathan Tah has been put forward as a potential West Ham United signing as they seek to sign a new defender.

That is according to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, who claims that West Ham are still in the market for another defender this summer.

The Hammers had set up a deal for Harry Maguire but he has decided to stay with Manchester United.

West Ham must now look elsewhere and Nah has been put forward to West Ham as a potential signing.

It’s unclear whether it’s Leverkusen or Tah’s representatives making that offer but he is a name on West Ham’s radar.

Tah was heavily linked with a move to West Ham in late June given that Tim Steidten is now at the London Stadium.

Technical director Steidten left Leverkusen last season and will know all about the qualities Tah provides at the back.

Steidten and David Moyes must now weigh up the merits of a deal for Tah as Hammers quickly move on from their Maguire disappointment.

Who is West Ham United target Jonathan Tah?

Tah was born in Hamburg and after starting out with local clubs Altona 93 and SC Concordia, the defender joined the Hamburger SV ranks.

Tah spent time out on loan with Fortuna Dusseldorf and played just 20 first-team games for Hamburg before securing a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen signed Tah at just 19, spotting his potential at an early age and he has now racked up more than 300 appearances for the club.

An enormous 6ft 5in centre back, Tah has been branded ‘dominant’ on the official Bundesliga website.

Tah has notched 16 caps for Germany but has only been capped three times since the end of 2020.

Tah may well feel that now is the right time for a fresh start away from Leverkusen, with West Ham and a reunion with Steidten potentially on the cards.
