Speculation had been rife this week that the Hammers wanted to sign Dutch right back Janmaat from relegated Newcastle.
With the ongoing unrest between manager, fans and player over the use of winger Michail Antonio at right back, West Ham were reported to be in the market for an experienced player in that position.
Instead the Dutch international was snapped up by Watford for £7 million, as reported by Sky Sports.

Hammers fans need not worry
The move seemed to upset some Hammers on social media and internet forums.
But according to many Newcastle supporters, the East Londoners have dodged a bullet.
The Holland international moved to St James’ Park in 2014 for a fee around £5million from Feyenoord.
He went on to make 77 appearances for the Magpies but was often criticised for his performances as Newcastle dropped into the Championship.
