Southampton’s 3-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday continued a truly awful record for the Hammers.

Goals from Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse saw Claude Puel’s side to victory at the London Stadium.

The Saints’ three goals mean that Slaven Bilic’s side have now conceded 16 goals in their first six games of this season, the worst record in the division.

Even worse, the two conceded in this game means West Ham have now given away two or more goals in all but one of their league games this season.

The one game that they did not concede in was their only win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.

For a side that has averaged just 1.4 goals per game so far, it is clear to see what the big problem is at the Olympic Stadium.

Worryingly for the Hammers, though, a look further back shows that the issue is not a new one for them.

In the 44 games that Bilic has managed in the Premier League to date, his side has conceded two or more goals in 22 of them.

Of those 22 games, West Ham have managed to pick up all three points on only two occasions, against Everton and Manchester United respectively.

It shows the problem is a deep-rooted one and Bilic’s side will have to go back to basics to ensure this season is not a disastrous one.
