West Ham’s Adrian celebrates their first goal
West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian has shared his delight to the club’s official website after being handed his first call-up to the Spain squad.
The Hammers goalkeeper was named in new manager Julen Lopetegui’s first squad that will take on Belgium in a friendly and Liechtenstein in a 2018 World Cup qualifier next month.
He is one of several new faces in their squad, being named alongside established ‘keepers Pepe Reina and David de Gea.
Adrian celebrates after Diafra Sakho scores the second goal for West Ham
It is just reward for him after he starred for the Hammers in their impressive first season under Slaven Bilic last season.
And he has shared his delight with the club’s official website at the news, saying it is hard to get in given the quality goalkeepers Spain have at their disposal.
“It’s great news and a great moment,” he told the club’s official website.
“I am really, really proud of this – to be one of the three best goalkeepers in the national team. It’s so, so hard to be named in the national team because we have so many goalkeepers playing at the top level.”
West Ham United’s Adrian in action
Adrian will now be hoping he can do enough to convince Lopetegui to hand him his debut, likely in the friendly with Belgium.
With De Gea and Reina in the squad he faces a fight to get in, although given Reina’s age the new Spain boss will surely be tempted to give Adrian his chance.
