West Ham United have signed Gianluca Scamacca – and the move has been hailed by former Hammer Don Hutchison.

David Moyes clearly wanted a new striker to support Michail Antonio in attack given that Sebastien Haller still hadn’t really been replaced since his 2021 exit.

Haller even managed to secure another transfer for himself before West Ham replaced him by joining Borussia Dortmund.

It was certainly time for West Ham to go and find another striker – and they have spent big on giving Moyes a new goalscorer.

West Ham United have signed Gianluca Scamacca

West Ham seemed to be closing in on Chelsea striker Armando Broja last week, but that deal went quiet.

Moyes turned his attention to Sassuolo hitman Scamacca and West Ham have secured their man.

A total package worth £35.5million was agreed with Sassuolo and Scamacca headed to England earlier this week.

Scamacca had been linked with Arsenal and Paris Saint-German earlier this summer so West Ham will have been fearing a hijack.

They got their man though, confirming Scamacca’s arrival on Tuesday night despite a social media snafu – they accidentally misspelled Scamacca’s name in his presentation video!

Scamacca is a huge striker at 6ft 5in tall and enjoyed a great campaign last season, racking up 16 goals in 36 games – despite only starting 25.

We’re not going to use the old ‘good feet for a big man’ adage, but Scamacca is as much of a threat on the deck as he is in the air.

This looks to be an exciting move for West Ham and former Hammers midfielder Don Hutchison has had his say.

Hutchison works as a pundit and watches football from all over the world, with Scamacca certainly on his radar.

Hutchison has taken to Twitter to state that he just can’t believe that Scamacca has made the move to West Ham, believing he would join PSG or Inter Milan instead.

The former Scotland international added that Scamacca just has ‘so much potential’, claiming that West Ham have made a superb season.
