While Tottenham’s Champions League opponents Ajax have a rest this weekend with no game, Spurs will be playing a London derby for West Ham.

It’s hardly ideal, but for one Tottenham player in particular it could be a positive rather than a negative.

Eric Dier is still waiting to make his first ever appearance at Tottenham’s new stadium and this is the perfect opportunity to bring him in.

A combination of illness and injury has restricted Dier to only two league starts in 2019.

He featured for an hour away to City last week, making his comeback in the 1-0 defeat.

Dier hoped to feature at the new stadium against Brighton, but was left as an unused substitute in the 1-0 win.

With Spurs chasing the win, Mauricio Pochettino opted to bring on striker Vincent Janssen instead.

Dier was also being rested up, and the game against West Ham is tailor made for him.

The Spurs midfielder is the type of player Tottenham need in derby games, one who will give everything for the shirt.

He has already created one famous memory against the Hammers, scoring the winner against them on his debut.

This is the perfect game for Dier to get some match sharpness in, in case he is needed against Ajax, and he can stake his claim for selection.

It would be a real shock if he plays no role against the Hammers.

Against West Ham, his first game at the new stadium, and a Champions League semi-final place to play for, there will be no player more committed on the pitch than Eric Dier.
