Simone Zaza struggled at West Ham, but is proving a success at Valencia.

It’s fair to say Simone Zaza’s spell at West Ham United was a disaster, with the striker failing to score a single goal during his loan spell at the club.

The Italian went on to sign with Valencia, and has been a big success.

This season he is in top form, netting seven goals in eight games.

This led to him winning the La Liga player of the month award, which he will collect tomorrow ahead of their game against Sevilla.

Zaza beat La Liga top scorer Lionel Messi to win the award, but insists – quite rightly – there is no comparison between them.

He was quoted by Tuttomercatoweb: “There is only one Messi, without the team I would not win, I want to continue to score in October, although the most important thing is the team ranking.”

Valencia sit in a surprisingly high second place, a dramatic turnaround from their struggles under previous boss Gary Neville two seasons ago.

Messi’s Barcelona sit top, with the Argentine having netted 11 goals already.

This is a purple patch for Zaza, and reason for him to feel proud, with the award well earned.

Simply to be mentioned in the same sentence as Messi is a compliment, and shows how he has turned his career around one year after his dismal West Ham experience.
