The classy Spanish midfielder was on course to be named the club’s Hammer of the Year this season for his consistent performances throughout the season.

But he was ruled out for the rest of the season when he was stretchered off with a knee injury in the 3-2 defeat to Leicester City last time out.

The news has left Hammers fans devastated with the club sitting 12th in the Premier League table and without a win in five games.

Some even suggested that will be the last time they see him play for the club, after he was linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, as reported by the likes of The Sun.

Obiang’s performances this season and last suggest he could comfortably compete at Champions League level, where the Reds may well be operating next season.

But the former Sampdoria midfielder took to Twitter this week with an encouraging message for supporters that he intends on returning better than ever… for the Hammers.

“I’ve very well,” Obiang posted on Twitter.

“Thanks to the medical staff of the stadium and West Ham staff for the help.

“I would like to say to all the fans, friends and teammates to be calm, because I will be working to return as before or better.”

The Spaniard has been one of West Ham‘s best and most consistent players this season.

And despite playing in the heart of midfield for a side battling it out in midtable, Obiang is the Premier League‘s best when it comes to the art of tackling.

Statistics earlier this season showed the midfielder is way out in front when it comes to getting the ball back for his team, beating the likes of SpursVictor Wanyama, Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson and West Bromwich Albion‘s Claudio Yacob in the process.
