West Ham United go up against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night in the Premier League in what could be a crucial match at the bottom of the table come May – and Hammers fans want to see Sam Byram starting.

The 24-year-old has featured for literally one minute of Premier League action this season after finally overcoming a long-term muscle problem which hampered the former Leeds United defender’s progress.

He came on as a late substitute during West Ham’s 1-1 draw last time out against Bournemouth in the Premier League, before playing the entire 90 minutes of the Hammers’ 2-0 FA Cup loss to League One side Wigan Athletic.

Now the Hammers go up against Roy Hodgson’s Palace in what is a pivotal match in the bottom half of England’s top tier, as the two sides meet at the London Stadium.

Hammers fans are desperate to see Byram start as they consider how to cope best with Palace speed machine and arguably their best player, Wilfried Zaha. Pablo Zabaleta is lacking in pace, and fans argue Byram would be a better fit.

One fan said Byram “has to start” over Zabaleta.
