James Collins has said he could leave West Ham if he is not offered a new contract.
West Ham United defender James Collins has admitted that he could leave the London Stadium this month as he is yet to be offered a new contract by the Hammers – and fans have bombarded the club’s board in hope to offer him a new deal.
The 34-year-old is in the final year of his contract and told the London Evening Standard that he would be devastated if he had to leave West Ham for a second time, but concluded that he may be forced to as his playing career enters its final stages.
It is believed that Brighton are interested in the former Aston Villa and Cardiff City defender, as they consider a £2.5million bid of the Hammers veteran with nine days remaining in the January transfer window.
Collins said that he is yet to be contacted over a renewal at the London Stadium despite now being available to talks to clubs on a pre-contract agreement, as the Hammers run the risk of losing the powerful centre-back.
West Ham fans reacted to the veteran’s comments, urging the Hammers board of David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady to offer the Wales international a new deal in the coming days.
One fan tweeted “give the ginger Pele another year”, while others tweeted Gold directly.
