West Ham United fans have been left bemused by David Moyes’ comments on Manuel Lanzini.
West Ham United suffered a thrashing at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, losing 4-1 to Pep Guardiola’s side at the London Stadium.
Leroy Sane and a Pablo Zabaleta own goal had put City 2-0 up, and whilst Aaron Cresswell pulled one back, Brazilian duo Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho struck to seal a 4-1 thumping.
The result means West Ham sit just three points clear of the relegation zone, and David Moyes’ men are far from safe yet as the Premier League approaches its climax.
After the 4-1 defeat at Arsenal, Moyes had strong comments about the performance of youngster Declan Rice, and this week it was Manuel Lanzini who bore the brunt of Moyes’ frustration.
The Argentinian playmaker has endured an injury-hit campaign but was looking bright against City, before Moyes decided to substitute him in favour of Javier Hernandez after 66 minutes.
The decision was met with a chorus of boos from West Ham fans, and Moyes explained to the London Evening Standard after the game that he substituted Lanzini in part because he gave the ball away for the fourth goal.
Moyes’ comments have sparked outrage amongst West Ham fans, who have taken to Twitter to call for Moyes to go now as he simply can’t take the blame for any of his shortcomings, instead blaming his players, adding that he doesn’t have a clue how to use Lanzini or manage his squad.
