West Ham United’s recent upturn in form ended on Friday night as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Brighton and Hove Albion in a poor display.

The Hammers had beaten Everton, drawn with Chelsea and beaten Manchester United to bounce back from a torrid start to the season, and fans were hoping to continue that form against Brighton.

However, West Ham never really got going at the Amex Stadium, and fell behind in the first half when Glenn Murray turned home Beram Kayal’s cross.

West Ham attempted to push in the second half but couldn’t find the equaliser, meaning Manuel Pellegrii’s side head into the international break off the back of a defeat.

A host of players struggled, including midfielder Pedro Obiang and winger Andriy Yarmolenko, who were both substituted, but left backArthur Masuaku was slammed.

Masuaku completely switched off for Brighton’s goal, allowing the Seagulls to pick out Murray unmarked to score the one goal of the game, with Masuaku doing nothing at the back post.

He may be talented going forward, but Masuaku’s defensive deficiencies have been highlighted yet again, and many fans have quite simply had enough.

Fans on Twitter called him ‘diabolical’ and ‘dreadful’, noting that he should be dropped for Aaron Cresswell, with some even wanting him sold as he will never be good enough to defensively to be a true left back.
