The Hammers defender shared his pre-match preparations as Salah and co come to the London Stadium but some fans didn’t like his response.
Issa Diop has spoken to the official West Ham United site ahead of their Premier League meeting with Liverpool on Monday night in which he discussed how he plans to nullify the threat brought by Mohamed Salah.
The Reds forward remains in superb form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, currently topping the division’s goalscoring charts on 16 goals (BBC Sport), while the team boasts a gargantuan 55 goals in just 24 league games, second only to Manchester City’s 63.
In addition, Liverpool have scored in all but one of their 24 Premier League matches, so it’s bound to be a difficult evening for Diop and his fellow Hammers defenders, but they have already shut out Chelsea and Arsenal at the London Stadium this season which is a big boost (West Ham site).
Diop maintains he is unfazed about the prospect of trying to keep out one of the league’s fiercest forward lines and insists he has not done anything different in preparation compared to getting ready for any other game.
“I don’t think they are unstoppable,” he told the Hammers website. “I’ll just play the game like any other one. We know Salah is a big player but, for me, I will prepare the same and play the game the same way.
“Before every game I watch clips of all the strikers I am going to face so we know what they like and don’t like, but a big player like him can do anything, so he is difficult to stop, but it is not impossible!”
Diop’s comments appear to suggest confidence, calm and level-headedness, but given West Ham have shipped nine goals in their last three games in all competitions, some Hammers fans did not seem too confident on Twitter:
