West Ham United fans on Twitter have questioned Patrice Evra’s comments about leadership.
The 36-year-old, a five-time Premier League champion with Manchester United, joined West Ham on a short-term deal last month to become the Irons’ most experienced player.
As a result, Evra feels a duty of leadership within the squad but, having failed to impress in any of his two games for David Moyes’s side, the Frenchman, subbed at half-time in the defeat by Swansea, has puzzled some fans of the East London club with his comments.
He told the club’s official website: ““Coming in at my age, there’s massive responsibility on my shoulders.
“You have to lead by example. Before you can say anything to a younger player and guide them with your words, you have to show them good examples and lead with your actions.
“You have to work hard in training, and do your job in the games.”

In his pomp, Evra was a fabulous left-back, but he looks completely past his best and unless he can prove himself a true leader on the pitch and help steer United away from danger from now until the end of the season then it’s unlikely that he’ll leave East London with a positive perception among the fans.
