West Ham United were beaten heavily on the opening day of the new Premier League season.

A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Michail Antonio’s performance during the Hammers’ heavy defeat on the opening day of the new Premier League season.
There was undoubtedly plenty of intrigue surrounding Anfield heading into Sunday’s clash. It had appeared that Liverpool had clearly made themselves into the team that Manchester City need to fear the most this season, while West Ham’s summer business saw the Irons earn a lot of praise.
It appeared, with the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini and the number of exciting signings made, that West Ham would be in a fantastic position to do significantly better than last season. But it appears that much of the pre-season optimism has evaporated somewhat following the clash at Anfield, even though they would have been underdogs on Merseyside.
Liverpool strolled to a dominant win, scoring twice in each half to claim a 4-0 victory. The defeat itself may not have been a huge surprise, but the manner of the loss will undoubtedly concern Pellegrini.

And following the game, a number of supporters were quick to criticise Antonio’s display. The winger struggled to make much of an impression on the game, and some of the fans felt that Pellegrini needs to take him out of the side for next Saturday’s clash against Bournemouth.
In fact, some were suggesting that it was a major mistake not to sell the former Nottingham Forest ace during the summer. Sky Sports reported in July that Crystal Palace were considering a £15 million bid for the wide-man, and some of the fans suggested that it was a missed opportunity not to cash in.

Here is what some of the West Ham fans made of Antonio’s display at Anfield…
