Inter Milan playmaker Joao Mario has been quoted by Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio’s official website as saying that he is still worth the £40million Inter paid Sporting Lisbon to sign him – and West Ham fans have reacted on Twitter.

The 25-year-old joined West Ham on loan last season for the second half of the campaign from Inter, making 13 Premier League appearances for the Hammers – in which he scored two goals.

A permanent deal is yet to be sorted between Inter and West Ham, though it is clear from Mario’s comments that he wants to leave the Italian giants this summer after struggling to be afforded regular game time at the San Siro.

But Mario could have priced himself out of a move to West Ham, with Marko Arnautovic currently boasting the record which is believed to be around the £25million mark.

The 34-time Portugal international said: “I’m still worth this amount, though. There was a lot of confusion and we couldn’t have an impact. I won’t return to Inter.”

West Ham fans have reacted to the playmaker’s comments, with some keen to make the deal a permanent one this summer. However, some are unsure if Mario actually wants to join West Ham.
