The Hammers defender was described by some supporters as “captain obvious” as he said he hoped the team would get back to winning ways on Boxing Day.

West Ham United fans will probably be having mixed feelings with regards to how their team has done so far this season.
A woeful start to the Premier League campaign, with four defeats on the trot, was followed up by a three-game unbeaten run which included victory over Manchester United and a draw with Chelsea.
After that, two losses on the spin, then another three games without defeat, a 4-0 hammering by Manchester City, and four wins in a row ended by a 2-0 home loss to Watford in their last game before Christmas.
In short, the only consistent thing about the Hammers this season seems to be their inconsistency, able to clinch heavy victories and claim shock scalps just as easily as falling to meek defeats at the hands of teams against which they fancied their chances.
As a result, it’s little surprise that some West Ham fans are feeling a little exasperated with the rollercoaster that is the current season.
When Issa Diop told the official club website that the team was hoping to get back to winning ways away at Southampton on Boxing Day, his comments weren’t universally well received.
