West Ham United are in ‘pole position’ to sign Danny Drinkwater, according to reports.

Some West Ham United fans on Twitter are in favour of signing Danny Drinkwater.

According to The Mail, West Ham are in ‘pole position’ sign the Chelsea midfielder, who hasn’t played a game for the Blues in any competition all season long.

Drinkwater, a Premier League champion with Leicester City in 2016, joined the West Londoners for £35 million in the summer of 2017 [The Telegraph].

Declan Rice has been brilliant in the Hammers’ midfield this season, but the same cannot be said for his partners – Jack Wilshere has managed only four Premier League games all season due to injury, while Pedro Obiang has really struggled under Manuel Pellegrini.

And some fans of the East London club reckon that Drinkwater represents the ideal player to play alongside the young West Ham star in midfield.

Pellegrini needs that extra bit of force in midfield, to be honest.

Tuesday’s 3-0 demolition at Wolves exposed a major weakness for the Irons in the middle and somebody of Drinkwater’s talent and experience might well go some way toward solidifying the midfield.

The transfer window closes tomorrow at 11pm and time will tell whether the 28-year-old is a Hammer.
