West Ham United were beaten convincingly by Liverpool this weekend.
West Ham United headed into the Premier League clash against Liverpool knowing that a victory was vital to ease the pressure on their much maligned players and beleaguered manager Slaven Bilic.
Unfortunately for all concerned, Liverpool picked Saturday to put the finishing touches to their fine attacking play, running out 4-1 winners with Manuel Lanzini scoring a consolation goal for the hosts.
That result leaves Bilic under increasing pressure and his players needing to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror.
One of those players was Aaron Cresswell, who started in the left wing-back position ahead of Arthur Masuaku but was unable to prevent Liverpool surging forward with alarming regularity.
The West Ham full-back has come in for plenty of criticism this season and on this evidence he needs to up his game considerably if he wants to be on the plane for England’s World Cup campaign next summer.
For now he should be fully focused on helping West Ham out of their current predicament, and given his age and experience he should be pulling them through not dragging them down.
