A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club confirmed on their official website that Lucas Perez has left the London Stadium to join Alaves this summer.

The Hammers appear to be focusing most of their attention on clearing the decks after an encouraging first season under Manuel Pellegrini. A number of fringe players have been released, and now Perez has joined Edimilson Fernandes in leaving on a permanent basis.

The Spaniard had a decent year with the Irons, scoring six goals in 19 appearances in all competitions. His record instantly becomes a lot better when you consider that he started just six times following his switch from Arsenal.

Nevertheless, plenty of West Ham fans on social media appear to be pleased that he has left the club this summer. It did not appear that Pellegrini had a lot of faith in the 30-year-old, so it made sense to make additional room on the wage bill.

There are however, a number of fans who believe that Perez’s contribution has been downplayed slightly given that he was a cheap acquisition 12 months ago and had to bide his time between chances.

But with a number of players now moved on and just two goalkeepers signed on free transfers, several supporters are now hoping that the announcements from now on will predominantly be concerning exciting new signings.
