West Ham United’s supporters were impressed with Cristian Pavon’s display in Argentina’s World Cup opener.

West Ham fans took to Twitter after Argentina’s surprise draw with Iceland in their opening game of the 2018 World Cup, with the performance from Cristian Pavon catching their eye.
Despite Iceland’s quality and resilience hardly proving a secret any longer, Argentina would have expected to brush the European side away with relative ease. But the game did not exactly go to plan for Jorge Sampaoli’s men as they led for a total of four minutes with Sergio Aguero’s opener quickly being cancelled out.

Argentina had the chance to move back in front during the second-half when Lionel Messi stepped up to take a penalty. However, the effort was saved and Iceland defended superbly to earn a massive point in their group.
While few of Argentina’s players will be pleased with their displays, there was a lot of praise for the cameo from Pavon, who was brought on during the second-half to try and give Sampaoli’s men the ability to ask more questions of their opponents.

TEAMtalk reported earlier this month that Pavon is a target for West Ham and is keen on a switch to the London Stadium, and it appears that a number of supporters would like to see a deal done after his performance.
The winger was exciting and did create a couple of openings for his side. And it could certainly be argued that he was perhaps unlucky not to receive a penalty after a challenge inside the box. There was not much contact, but there was undoubtedly some as he went down.
And it appears that his display has convinced a number of West Ham fans that he would be a superb signing ahead of Manuel Pellegrini’s first season in charge.
Here is some of the reaction to his performance…
