West Ham United are reportedly considering a move for Chuba Akpom in the final days of the transfer window.
A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from the Daily Mail this week suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini is considering a late move for Chuba Akpom as he looks to add to his striker ranks.
The Hammers have enjoyed a productive summer, with deals for both Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller capturing the imagination of the Irons fans as they look to build on an encouraging first campaign under Pellegrini.
They still look a little light up front. But the Mail suggests that Pellegrini is considering addressing that issue by making a move for £5 million-rated Akpom, one year after his £900,000 transfer from Arsenal to PAOK.
Akpom helped the Greek side win the title during his first year with the club. He scored eight goals in all domestic competitions and also provided five assists – and the Mail reports that he scored four times in one game in front of West Ham scouts in pre-season.
But despite the success that he has enjoyed since making the move, it appears that many of the West Ham fans would consider a deal an underwhelming one.
Akpom’s record before his move to Greece was uninspiring, and some doubt whether they should be overly impressed by his record since joining PAOK. One supporter even suggested that they would prefer to see Danny Welbeck signed.
However, there are others who have a sense that a move for Akpom could actually be a decent piece of business, especially given his reported asking price. They are hoping, if he does join, that his doubters will be pleasantly surprised.
