West Ham United stooped to a new low this season following a demoralising 5-1 home defeat by Arsenal at the London Stadium.
The Irons were in the game for much of last night’s defeat as only Mesut Ozil’s first-half opener separated both sides at the break.
But a quickfire double from Alexis Sanchez effectively killed off West Ham’s chances by the 80-minute mark, though second-half sub Andy Carroll did bag a consolation.
However, two late goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sanchez wrapped up the rout for the Hammers, who are 17th in the table – one point above the drop zone.
Understandably, West Ham fans were furious at full time as they took aim at a number of players, but Arthur Masuaku seemed to bare the brunt of it – even if some supporters defended the £6 million left-back.
A depleted West Ham were forced to contend with injuries to first-choice full-backs Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio after the duo limped out of the League Cup defeat at Old Trafford in midweek.
Masuaku hasn’t had the best of times with the London club following his arrival in the summer, thrown into the mix early on due to Cresswell’s lengthier injury, and it seems like he has a lot to do in order to win over the fans.
