A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to slam Andy Carroll’s performance during the Hammers’ defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, with many insisting that Manuel Pellegrini needs to move the striker on.

Much of the talk leading up to the game centred around Marko Arnautovic and whether he could be on his way out of the London Stadium this month.

The Austrian’s absence at the Vitality Stadium presented Carroll with the chance to make only his second Premier League start of the season. And he had a golden opportunity to grasp the chance with both hands.

The 30-year-old somehow managed to miss from a yard out during the second-half in a moment that will have possibly reminded some West Ham supporters of that infamous effort from Samassi Abou almost 21 years ago.

And that miss from Carroll seemed to sum up his day. He struggled to make much of an impact in the final third, and his contribution has angered a lot of the fans on social media.

With Arnautovic’s future up in the air, plenty of supporters now seem to be worried about the prospect of Carroll – who earns £90,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – leading the line on a more regular basis, and feel that it is imperative for Manuel Pellegrini to get a new striker in before the window shuts.
