West Ham United have announced that Toni Martinez will spend the season out on loan in Spain.

A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that the club announced on their official website that Toni Martinez has headed out on loan for the coming campaign.

The 21-year-old has been on the Hammers’ books since 2016, but has struggled to force his way into the club’s first-team. He is still awaiting his Premier League debut and has played just three times in all competitions.

Instead, Martinez has spent much of his time out on loan, joining Oxford United during his first year and then heading off to Real Valladolid midway through last season. Unfortunately, neither spell has been particularly productive, with one league goal coming from each of the stints.

Perhaps unsurprisingly therefore, he has left on loan once again this year, with the club confirming on their official website that he has joined Rayo Majadahonda for next term.

The news has been met with a largely negative reaction amongst the West Ham fans on social media. Some appear to feel that loan moves to Spanish second division sides will do little for his prospects of becoming a success at the London Stadium.

There are some who believe that he either deserved a chance to remain in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this year or are positive about his loan exit, but plenty appear to feel that the club are making a mistake in keeping Martinez on the books as he continues to struggle to force his way into the first-team.
