The Hammers striker left Molineux on crutches after the 3-0 loss to Wolves, just days after signing a contract extension in East London.

The transfer saga involving West Ham United and Marko Arnautovic finally came to an end earlier this month as the Austria international penned a new contract at the Premier League club.
The 29-year-old had been linked with a big-money move to a Chinese Super League club, believed to be Shanghai SIPG, as reported by BBC Sport, but on January 26 he signed a new deal which the Daily Mail speculates to run until 2023.
Needless to say, Arnautovic’s contract extension was not received very well by some West Ham fans, judging by some of the reaction on Twitter after the news was published on the club’s account, and things have just taken another turn for the worse.
The Hammers fell to a humbling 3-0 defeat away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night and, in the second half at Molineux, Arnautovic landed on his right leg awkwardly in an aerial challenge for possession and had to be substituted.

Arnautovic, who was making his first appearance since being substituted in the victory over Arsenal on January 12, ended up having to leave Molineux on crutches, and manager Manuel Pellegrini’s prognosis wasn’t optimistic, telling reporters post-match: “I think it will not be an easy injury”.
Here is some of the Twitter reaction from the West Ham fanbase, which largely seems to suggest a feeling of having wasted money on the player’s new deal and spurned a great opportunity to cash in on him:
