West Ham United are reportedly unwilling to offer Jack Wilshere anything more than an initial one-year contract at the London Stadium.

Jack Wilshere of Arsenal is closed down by Tiemoue Bakayoko of Chelsea during the Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg at Emirates Stadium on January 24, 2018 in London, England.

Some West Ham fans have been reacting on Twitter to the reports that emerged from The Sun over the weekend which suggested that the Hammers are only prepared to offer Jack Wilshere a one-year deal at the London Stadium initially.

Wilshere is looking set to become a free agent this summer after spending his entire career to date on Arsenal’s books. The Sun suggests that he has no shortage of offers to pick from, with the Irons being joined by the likes of Wolves and Juventus on the list of his admirers.

West Ham appear to have revealed their hand in the race to sign the 26-year-old, but The Sun suggests that their planned offer is not one that Wilshere is likely to appreciate with the Irons only prepared to put a one-year contract on the table and discuss a potential extension once he has proved his fitness.

The Sun adds that West Ham’s potential offer has damaged their hopes of signing the England international – and that has prompted some debate on social media.

There are some fans who feel that the Irons hierarchy are making the right decision taking a cautious approach. Wilshere has made nowhere near the number of appearances during his career that a player of his calibre should, and it is certainly a gamble for any club to make a move, even though he is available on a free transfer.

But there are also those who are angry at the club for their reported stance as they feel that Wilshere is a player worth taking a risk on. Some of the supporters feel that he would be worth at least a two-year deal if that is what it takes to ensure that they stand a chance of bringing the midfielder into Manuel Pellegrini’s squad this summer.
