Jordan Hugill starred for Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon with an excellent brace for Tony Pulis’ men as they earned a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Riverside – and some West Ham fans have applauded the target man.
The 26-year-old managed only his sixth Championship start for his beloved Boro since leaving the Hammers on a season-long loan in the January transfer window.
He had previously failed to score for Pulis’ side in the league this season, only finding the back of the net once in the Carabao Cup. But he scored both goals as Boro beat Wigan comfortably.
Hugill, who joined West Ham from Preston for a fee of £10million (BBC Sport) in January under David Moyes, managed just three substitute appearances for the east Londoners during the second half of the 2017-18 season.
It was clear that Hugill was not cut out for Premier League football at a club like West Ham and new manager Manuel Pellegrini took little time to decide to offer him out on loan this summer.
Boro decided to chance their arm on the powerful forward, winning the race amid interest from plenty of Championship clubs and may be about to start proving dividends for the Teesside club in their hunt for promotion.
West Ham fans reacted to his superb display on Saturday, with some even urging him to return to West Ham and help do a job up front for Pellegrini’s inconsistent side.
