The Hammers have long been linked with a move for Cairney.

West Ham United have reportedly had a bid rejected for Fulham captain Tom Cairney as they look to test the newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham’s resolve over their star player – and Hammers fans have reacted on Twitter.
Sky Sports claimed on their Transfer Centre (Friday, 12:32pm) that the 27-year-old was the subject of a £20million bid from Manuel Pellegrini’s side, after the east Londoners failed to land the midfielder in January.

Indeed, Cairney was a target for David Moyes in the previous transfer window, and the Hammers remain interested in the former Hull City and Leeds United playmaker despite changing their manager.

Last season, Cairney had a hand in 11 goals during his 37 league and cup appearances – scoring six and creating five. He scored the winner in the Championship play-off final against Aston Villa.

The Hammers desperately need another option in the middle of the park, after long-term injuries to Pedro Obiang and Edimilson Fernandes left Moyes with just Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and rookie Josh Cullen at times last term.
West Ham fans reacted to the news that their club had a bid rejected for Cairney, with the majority of fans suggesting they would rather sign Arsenal’s 26-year-old midfielder Jack Wilshere, who is available on a free.
