The Austrian forward wins the West Ham ‘Hammer of the Year’ award for his impressive performances this season.
On Wednesday, West Ham United held their annual club awards evening. This included recognition for Pedro Obiang for ‘Goal of the Season’ (for his beautiful strike against Tottenham), as well as for Declan Rice, who was named ‘Young Player of the Season’.
The man who stole the show, however, was Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic. Arnautovic won both ‘Hammer of the Year’ and ‘Signing of the Season’, after a truly impressive run of performances this season.
In 24 Premier League appearances, the forward has scored 10 goals, assisting in a further four. In recent weeks, he picked up man of the match awards for his performances in West Ham’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and West Ham’s 3-0 demolition of Southampton – where he scored twice.
Arnautovic has performed better than Javier Hernandez, who was signed at the start of the season to lead West Ham’s attack. The Austrian has been integral to West Ham’s attacking movement, and if it weren’t for Arnautovic’s performances, the London club could easily be facing relegation.
