The Hammers midfielder has struggled with injury this season but could start the club’s final Premier League game of the season.

West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that Jack Wilshere will start the team’s final Premier League game of the season against Watford on Sunday.

The 27-year-old has only made seven league appearances for the Hammers since joining on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer, with two different ankle injuries having kept him out of action.

Wilshere started West Ham’s first four Premier League games of the season, but his injury issues have meant that he has made just three substitute appearances since 1 September, when he was in the starting XI in the 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers (BBC Sport).

The former Arsenal man has been eased back into action after a prolonged period of rest and a 60-minute outing for the Under-23s last month, having been on the bench for the past three games, and got 22 minutes and an assist against Southampton last time out (Football London).

“Jack is ready to start, and he will be involved on the squad,” Pellegrini is quoted by the official West Ham Twitter feed as saying ahead of the Hornets game. “For the minutes he played, he did very well.”

Here is how some Hammers fans responded to the update on the social media platform:
