Not for the first time this season, many West Ham United fans have been left reeling following their latest match.
Admittedly, Manchester City are a tough proposition for virtually every other team in the Premier League, so few realistically expected the Hammers to come away with victory.
However, a 4-0 defeat is hard to take against any opponent, particularly at home, and when three goals are shipped in the first half, it’s a particularly bitter pill to swallow.
This is exactly what happened on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side raced into a 3-0 lead by the 34th minute and added the cherry on top in second-half injury time.
According to Sky Sports, Man City claimed 69.3% possession and weighed in with six shots on target, while eight of West Ham’s nine efforts were either off-target or blocked.
All in all, not the best day at the office for the east Londoners, so you would think that some tactfulness should be utilised when it comes to post-match comments.
Instead, what we got from the official West Ham site is an article that begins by saying: “Lukasz Fabianski is a straight-talker. If you want cliches and meaningless words, then West Ham United’s Poland international goalkeeper is not the man you want to interview.”
Fabianski then spoke about the game and capped the interview off by stating: “I don’t think we should be too down. Obviously losing 4-0 at home isn’t the best thing, but we knew it was going to be tough and a massive challenge for us to compete against a team like Manchester City. We gave it a go and we just have to move on to the next game.”
