Masuaku lasted the entire 90 minutes as West Ham beat Cardiff.
West Ham United earned a second successive Premier League win for the first time in almost two years thanks to a 3-1 triumph over newly-promoted Cardiff City – but fans were unimpressed with Arthur Masuaku’s display.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side came into the clash against Neil Warnock’s newly-promoted outfit having dispatched Newcastle United on the weekend with an excellent 3-0 win at St. James’ Park.
With their tails up, they earned a 3-1 win thanks to a brace from Lucas Perez and a third from Michail Antonio. It was Perez’s first Premier League goal in 700 days, having joined the Hammers in August from Arsenal for £4million.
Lukasz Fabianski saved a Joe Ralls’ penalty, before substitute Perez put his side ahead after an exquisite assist from the in-form Robert Snodgrass. Masuaku then played Perez through, who nutmegged Neil Etheridge for his second.
Scotland international Snodgrass made it three assists in two games as his corner met Antonio, who headed home. Jacob Murphy headed in a consolation from Cardiff in injury time, in what seemed to be slightly controversial.
Masuaku, 25, has come in for plenty of criticism of late, with many claiming he is better on the left side of midfield rather than at left-back. Pellegrini was left with little choice to play the £6million signing (Sky Sports), due to Aaron Cresswell’s injury.
West Ham fans sounded their appreciation at the full-time whistle for a performance that saw the Hammers move into 12th position, but some supporters were disappointed with Masuaku on Twitter after the match – despite his assist.
