Anger simmers over Leeds defender Liam Cooper’s apparent stamp on West Ham loanee Reece Oxford.
Leeds United defender Liam Cooper faces an anxious wait to see if he will be hit with a retrospective ban for an incident late in their defeat to Reading on Saturday evening.
Cooper collided with Royals substitute Reece Oxford, and raked his boot against the prone defender’s face.
The referee did not see the incident, and Cooper was accused by rival fans of a deliberate stamp on his opponent.
Leeds manager Garry Monk defended his player after the match, telling Sky Sports that Cooper’s actions were purely accidental and he was ‘not that sort of player’.
He said: “Look, I haven’t seen it, but I know Liam very very well, he’s 100 per cent not that type of lad. Obviously I haven’t seen it, but I can imagine that it was more of an accident than anything else.”

Oxford, on loan from West Ham, was able to continue the game and help Reading see out a 1-0 victory.
Hammers fans were left fuming at seeing the incident, with the game broadcast live on Sky.
Supporters rallied round their young talent, and expressed their anger at Leeds’ Scottish international Liam Cooper, with some even calling for a lifetime ban to be imposed by the FA.
