The debate surrounding Granit Xhaka rumbles on, with many still giving their opinions on the Arsenal midfielder’s actions against Crystal Palace.
Xhaka has been slated by Arsenal fans for some time now, but he appeared to reach breaking point during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Palace.
As he slowly walked off the field, Xhaka was jeered by his own fans, and he hit back with gestures and expletives in an ugly showing from the Gunners captain.
Unai Emery now has a big issue to deal with given that he appointed Xhaka as club captain just a month ago, and it’s unclear just what the future holds for the 27-year-old midfielder.
Many have criticised Xhaka for his actions, and former England boss Sam Allardyce has joined in, suggesting that ‘gesticulating to the fans is the one thing you can’t do’.
Allardyce’s strong comments on Xhaka are particularly surprising given that he actually did similar to West Ham United fans in 2014, when he oversaw an unconvincing home win over Hull City.
West Ham fans haven’t forgotten that, and took to Twitter to brand ‘Big Sam’ a hypocrite for his Xhaka criticism, reminding him what he did at Upton Park almost six years ago.
