West Ham United have confirmed the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as the club’s new manager and fans are all saying the same thing about the news.

David Moyes’ time at West Ham United was an overwhelming success with the Scotsman winning the Europa Conference League crown in 2023 after beating Italian side Fiorentina 2-1, thanks to a late Jarrod Bowen goal.

It certainly seems like a harsh decision to allow the Scotsman to leave the club, particularly after the Hammers consolidated themselves in the top 10 and only narrowly missed out on a European spot.

Nevertheless, the East London side have decided to appoint former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui and the hope is that the Spaniard can guide them to consistent European football.

West Ham fans react

Well, the official West Ham account on X announced the news of Lopetegui’s appointment and fans have given their verdict on the former Sevilla and Real Madrid boss.

“Hopefully the style of play improves. The thing I’m happy about most is that we’re moving from a Manager structure to a Head Coach,” said one fan. Another said: “Really excited to see what the future holds with Lopetegui. It’s something new and fresh.”

Others were keen to get behind the Spaniard. “No matter your thoughts, let’s get behind the manager,” one put. “Let’s all just get behind him and the team,” another wrote.

Another fan believes that whilst this is an exciting appointment, transfers are needed: “Cannot wait for the new era at West Ham but we need to get this rebuild right this summer.”

A sixth fan, presumably of a rival team, made a prediction as to where they will finish next season: ” The most obvious tenth place finish ever.”

Lopetegui’s Premier League stint

The Spaniard was a real coup for the Premier League when Wolves hired him during the 2022/23 season but the former Sevilla boss was never truly backed during his brief stint in the Black Country.

During his spell in the Midlands, Lopetegui managed just 27 games for Wolves, winning 10 of these. The Spaniard’s points per game rate was 1.30, which is lower compared to Moyes’ points per game rate of 1.53 during his time in East London.

Lopetegui has won multiple trophies with Sevilla but this is certainly a risk for the Hammers. Getting rid of a steady and successful coach like Moyes is a risk, this has to work out. Hammers fans are certainly in agreement that Lopetegui has to be backed this summer.
