The Hammers are said to be after the Frenchman, as are recent rivals Marseille.
West Ham United certainly did not enjoy the attentions of Marseille this winter. The club ended up selling Dimitri Payet to the French side at a price they felt was below market value, after it became clear they needed to sell him to give the team sustainability.
So, there is no doubt the Hammers would like to get one over the French side.

Well it looks like they might be about to do battle over the same player.
Both West Ham and Marseille are keen on signing Bacary Sagna in the summer.
West Ham were linked with the Manchester City player by the Mirror over the weekend. The Frenchman’s contract at The Etihad expires in the summer and the Hammers are reportedly ready to take full advantage.

But Marseille have also taken notice. According to Le 10 Sport the French side are hopeful of continuing their revolution by bringing Sagna to the club on a free themselves. The French side can begin talking to the player now, considering his deal expires in the summer, regarding a potential Bosman transfer.
West Ham fans will no doubt hope the club can get one over on Marseille by convincing Sagna a return to London is better than a return to France.
