West Ham United are eyeing a summer deal for Bundesliga top scorer Niclas Fullkrug in a move that could raise further questions over Gianluca Scamacca’s Premier League future, speaking to Sport BILD.
With all due respect to the Hammers, we’d recommend Fullkrug do his research before potentially signing on the dotted line at the London Stadium. West Ham’s record when it comes to signing centre-forwards is, after all, the stuff of legend. And not in a good way.
Sebastien Haller appeared incapable of hitting a barn door with a double bass during his time in claret-and-blue; that ill-fated West Ham spell sandwiched by prolific stints at Eintracht Frankfurt and Ajax.

The £35 million Scamacca, meanwhile, has scored just three times in the Premier League since arriving from Sassuolo. There remains a nagging and growing concern that David Moyes simply doesn’t know how to get the best out of his Italy international targetman. The footballing equivalent of handing DJ Khaled Bob Marley’s guitar and expecting beautiful music to follow.
Scamacca’s future at West Ham is already uncertain; A return to Italy with AC Milan reportedly on the cards. But could Fullkrug thrive where he, Haller and co failed?
West Ham eye Bundesliga ace Niclas Fullkrug
No one in the German Bundesliga has more than Fullkrug’s 15 goals this term. A tally which looks even more impressive when you consider he is leading the line not for Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig or Borussia Dortmund, but for newly-promoted Werder Bremen.
Labelled an ‘absolute weapon’ by Philip Lahm and a ‘real number nine’; Fullkrug is valued in the region of £14 million. His experience, physicality and penalty-area instincts are likely to appeal to Moyes. Presuming, of course, that the Scot is still in charge come the summer.
Werder Bremen, meanwhile, are not ruling out a sale, though Fullkrug will be going nowhere on the cheap.
“If an immoral offer comes along, which Niclas would like to accept, we will at least have to consider it” explains Werder director Clemens Fritz. “Due to our financial possibilities.”
