West Ham United left-back Aaron Cresswell has praised Leeds United on the club’s official website.

Cresswell was in action for West Ham in their 2-1 win against Leeds away from home at Elland Road in the Premier League on Friday evening.

Although Marcelo Bielsa’s side took the lead in the opening minutes from the penalty spot, the Hammers launched a comeback and picked up all three points from the encounter.

Cresswell told West Ham’s official website: “I think if you look at it, it was similar to the Manchester United game with the chances we created. We had more than four or five – you could say clear-cut – chances, but we couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.

“We know what Leeds are all about – they never stop, they really graft and run all over the pitch – but credit to the lads, we stuck together and got the three points that we wanted.

“I think it [our gameplan] went out of the window after two minutes when they got the penalty, but these things happen. As long as we didn’t lose our heads and give away another goal…

“[In the second half] it was just about not giving up and keeping going. Credit to the lads, we stuck with it and got the three points.”

Match Stats

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Friday evening, hosts Leeds had 64% of the possession, took 13 shots of which seven were on target, and earned five corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors West Ham had 36% of the possession, took 19 shots of which eight were on target, and earned six corners, according to BBC Sport.

Leeds United need to improve

Leeds are conceding more goals than they would ideally like, especially from set pieces.

Although the West Yorkshire club are creating chances and scoring goals, they are shipping in goals, and Bielsa needs to sort that out.

Leeds are a very entertaining team to watch, but they need to tighten it at the back to have a successful season.
