The left-back was sent off but also had an excellent comeback performance.

West Ham United have got back to winning ways in the Premier League – with a 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

A goal from Manuel Lanzini proved to be the winning goal, after a fantastic delivery from Aaron Cresswell.

The left-back was back in action for the first time since suffering a knee injury during the summer. During his absence West Ham have clearly suffered without him but he was outstanding in his comeback appearance for the club.

The defender’s attacking presence in the wing-back position was pivotal to West Ham’s performance and eventual win – but the game did not end positively for him.

He was sent off for two very contentious bookable offences in the game.

Most West Ham fans, and neutrals, were in agreement after the game that Cresswell was very hard done by and the player was clearly in agreement. He sent this tweet yesterday highlighting his pleasure with the result, but not the red card:

There is no doubt that West Ham are likely to have grounds for an appeal on this red card decision. Hopefully they can have the decision overturned because with Cresswell back West Ham looked more like the Hammers of last season.
