West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has been named in England’s squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montenegro this month.

The 20-year-old recently saw his switch of international allegiance from the Republic of Ireland to the Three Lions ratified by FIFA, who were quoted by Sky Sports News as saying earlier in March that “the change of association has been approved”.

This put Rice in contention for England’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montenegro and, on Wednesday, the home nation announced their squad (including on Twitter), which featured the Hammers ace.

The versatile defensive player was born in London, but played for the Irish at youth level as well as in three senior games, but as those matches were friendlies, he could still switch to play for England, as he has done.

Following the announcement, Rice took to Twitter to express his joy at being called up by Gareth Southgate:

Here is some of the reaction from the Hammers faithful:

Rice has been impressive for his club this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions, of which 27 have been Premier League starts (Transfermarkt).
