West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice was outstanding against Aston Villa – and has now received praise from Joao Mario.

Rice not only set up Ben Johnson’s opener in the 4-1 win over Villa, but then got himself on the scoresheet.

Rice rifled in a long-range drive, giving Emiliano Martinez no chance.

West Ham went on to win the game 4-1 with Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen both on the scoresheet.

That takes the Hammers level on points with Manchester City in the table, with West Ham having real hope of a top four finish this term.

Rice praised by ex-West Ham teammate Joao Mario

Many have been praising Rice for his all-action displays in midfield.

Pundits, fans and teammates have been blown away by Rice this season, and his displays have dazzled Joao Mario too.

Some West Ham fans will remember Joao Mario joining the club on loan in 2018, featuring in David Moyes’ first stint as Hammers boss.

The Portugal international has since turned out for Lokomotiv Moscow, Sporting and now their bitter rivals Benfica.

The 28-year-old took to Instagram to send a message to Rice, simply stating ‘what a player you are bro’ having been impressed with the West Ham star against Villa.
