David Moyes wants Mick Doherty at West Ham United after his former Everton colleague left his scouting role at Celtic.

The Hammers enjoyed a great summer window, adding the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer, Emerson Palmieri, Flynn Downes, Lucas Paqueta, Maxwel Cornet and Gianluca Scamacca.

Their recruitment throughout Moyes’ second spell in charge has been strong and head of recruitment Rob Newman has come in for real praise.

Georges Santos joined the West Ham scouting team last year and even former Norwich City hitman Grant Holt is now part of West Ham’s recruitment team.

David Moyes wants Mick Doherty at West Ham

It looks like David Moyes still has a move in mind though.

Alan Nixon reports via Patreon that Moyes now wants to bring scout Mick Doherty to West Ham.

Doherty worked as a 17-21 International and UK Scout for Everton during Moyes’ time in charge at Goodison Park.

Doherty moved on to Chelsea before becoming Head of Recruitment at Sunderland for the 2016-17 season, which is when Moyes was in charge of the Black Cats.

Celtic was the next stop for Doherty as he became a first-team scout for the Bhoys between 2017 and 2022.

Now available again after leaving Celtic this past summer, Doherty could now be in line for yet another reunion with Moyes.

Doherty has been labelled as the man who discovered Wayne Rooney at Everton, as well as the likes of Seamus Coleman and even Shkodran Mustafi.

Moyes clearly thinks highly of Doherty and now wants him on board at West Ham as they prepare for the January transfer window.

Doherty may well be charged with the task of finding another natural right back given West Ham’s issues there.

Doherty is expected to land a job in the senior department of West Ham’s recruitment process and Moyes will surely love to have a familiar face on board.
