West Ham United scraped past non-league Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday afternoon, but Issa Diop may be fearing the worst under David Moyes.
The Hammers fell behind in the first half as Alex Penny rifled home from close range, setting up the prospect of a major FA Cup giant-killing.
West Ham dragged the game to extra time when Declan Rice slammed home a last-gasp winner, and there was to be more late drama.
Jarrod Bowen converted the winner with mere seconds of extra time to go, sending West Ham through in a cruel defeat for Kidderminster.
David Moyes will be far from pleased with how his strong side struggled to overcome non-league opposition.
You can tell just how fuming the Scot was having made two half-time substitutions to try and change the game.
One of those changes was hooking centre back Diop, replacing the Frenchman with Craig Dawson at the break.
Diop struggled massively. Diop was actually so bad that Micah Richards branded him ‘awful’, ‘sloppy’ and ‘too laboured’.
This was a great chance for Diop to show that he should be in the team regularly alongside Kurt Zouma, but he wasted that chance badly.
Newcastle United actually wanted to sign Diop before last week’s transfer deadline, but the Magpies couldn’t get a deal done.
Fast forward a week and Diop has flopped against non-league opposition so badly that Moyes didn’t even let him play the second half.
That may leave Diop fighting for his West Ham future, but may also mean that Newcastle re-think any move for the Frenchman this summer.
As far as Saturdays go, Diop – who cost a cool £22million in 2018 – had a very, very bad one.
