West Ham United face a must win game against Southampton on Saturday.

Carlton Cole of West Ham warms up during the Barclays Premier League match between West Ham United and Everton at Boleyn Ground on May 16, 2015 in London, England.

Ex-West Ham striker and fan favourite Carlton Cole sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and made a desperate plea to the club’s fans ahead of what will be a vitally important game against Southampton on Saturday.

The Hammers are currently in all sorts of trouble, and sit precariously in 17th position in the Premier League table, two points clear of Mark Hughes 18th placed Saints side.

David Moyes undoubtedly had a positive impact after he was handed the reigns at the London Stadium in November last year, but his West Ham side have really struggled of late, winning just once since January 13th.

Frustrations boiled over against Burnley three weeks ago, with the game being interrupted on numerous occasions due to home fans invading the pitch and making their feelings known to the board.

Cole, who scored 68 goals for the Hammers during two separate spells with the club, pleaded with the London Stadium faithful to get behind the team on Saturday, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“The scenes I saw a few weeks ago at the Burnley game were upsetting. It’s now time to come together and push in the same direction. Any qualms the fans have – let’s just leave that until the end of the season and first make sure we are safe. In the summer, we can assess everything, but now is not the time. For now, the fans have got to get behind the team. West Ham definitely have the players who can lead the team to success, but they need the fans with them. The support of the fans is vital right now and I hope they can see that.”

If West Ham lose to the Saints, they will find themselves inside the bottom three with just seven games remaining, and then they really would be under pressure with their Premier League status hanging by a thread.
