David Moyes’s West Ham United have been linked with Ian Maatsen, but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City want the Chelsea youngster as well.

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham United and Manchester City are interested in signing Ian Maatsen from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old left-back is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season.

Chelsea are trying to convince Maatsen, who can also operate as a winger, to put pen to paper on a new deal.

West Ham are looking for a left-back, and so are City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season.

TEAMtalk has claimed that West Ham could try to sign Maatsen in January if the 21-year-old does not agree a new deal with Chelsea by then.

My View: West Ham United could struggle to sign Ian Maatsen

In my opinion, West Ham United may not find it easy to convince Ian Maatsen to move to London Stadium when he potentially has the option to join Manchester City.

Now, of course, at City, Maatsen is going to have to work really hard to get into the first team.

But, the chance to work with Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers of all time, could be too tempting for the youngster.

After all, Guardiola improves players, and the Netherlands Under-21 international is a very young footballer who is still learning his trade.
