If one new transfer report is true, West Ham United could finally sign the player who they were first linked to back in 2016.

The Hammers have done exceptionally well with using Michail Antonio as the spearhead of their attack in recent years.

But West Ham boss David Moyes does need a traditional number nine going forward.

And according to 90 Min, the Scottish coach is looking at the same player who Slaven Bilic tried to sign five years ago.

The report claims that West Ham are keen on signing Arsenal hitman Alexandre Lacazette in January.

And interestingly, the Irons have already had a bid rejected.

Back in 2016, the East Londoners failed with an offer of £42.7 million for the then-Lyon striker [Sky Sports].

It was a massive offer at the time because it came only weeks after Bilic broke the club’s transfer record in a £20.5 million purchase of Andre Ayew.

Cut-price deal?

Lacazette was only 25 at the time and could afford to bide his time, hold out for a bigger move – and he got one to North London a year later, joining for £46 million.

But with the France international’s contract expiring this summer, and the Gunners reportedly not prepared to offer him a new one [ESPN], West Ham could now pick him up for peanuts, considering his age and the fact he’d only have six months to run on this deal.

He is clearly not as lethal as he was six years ago, having turned 30 in May, but for the price, he could still be a very shrewd January addition.
