West Ham United are reportedly amongst the cluster of Premier League sides keen on signing Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, West Ham have put themselves amongst the host of Premier League sides keeping a keen eye on Xherdan Shaqiri with a serious question mark lingering over whether Stoke City will still be in the top flight next term.

Paul Lambert’s men are currently five points off safety and have just four games to pull themselves away from danger in the top flight. And with no wins since January, it is difficult to see where those results that they need are coming from in the final weeks of the campaign.

Relegation would surely mean the end of Shaqiri’s spell with the club – he would perhaps be forgiven for seeking a move away even if they manage to stay up – and Calciomercato are suggesting that the Irons are keen to rival Everton and Crystal Palace for the Switzerland international.

The 26-year-old has been a real shining light for Stoke this season, scoring seven and providing six assists, so signing him could be a real masterstroke from West Ham – especially as it would see Shaqiri link up with Marko Arnautovic for a second time. And if David Moyes can have the same impact on the winger as he has had on the Austrian, the Hammers could form a truly lethal partnership that has the potential to ensure that the club find themselves nowhere near the bottom of the table next season.

Arnautovic has scored nine Premier League goals for the Irons and they all came after Moyes’ arrival midway through the season. That form has undoubtedly been a key reason why the Hammers supporters are able to relax a lot more about their survival chances.

And with Shaqiri and Arnautovic forming a very good partnership at Stoke before the latter’s departure, there is no reason to think that the pair could not be something extremely special if the Irons board were able to reunite them this summer.
