West Ham United got it horribly wrong last summer and should turn to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur to feed off their flops in the next window.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic reacts
Some West Ham United fans are not happy with the transfer business conducted by the club in the last few windows.
David Gold and fellow co-owner David Sullivan were full of promises to fans ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium last summer.
A torrid first half of the season has drastically improved of late with the Hammers now sat in 10th place in the Premier League and very much looking up the table.
A forgettable first half of the season culminated in Slaven Bilic losing wantaway superstar Dimitri Payet.
And while the club brought in experienced Premier League performers Robert Snodgrass and Jose Fonte, many supporters are still disgruntled over what they feel are broken promises when it comes to West Ham‘s dealings in the transfer market.
Promises were made over big money, marquee signings as the East Londoners relocated to Stratford in the summer.
Indeed the ability to compete with the Premier League elite as a result of the stadium move was held up as a carrot to fans dubious over the decision to leave the club’s famous Boleyn Ground home of 112 years.
Instead Bilic’s squad was diluted by a glut of poor quality loans or free transfer signings in the summer.
Bilic and the club’s owners have made it clear they will now look first to British-based players after their poor summer recruitment.
And that could lead the Hammers to try again for two flops who snubbed them for bitter rivals Spurs.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen has struggled for goals
Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen cost Mauricio Pochettino more than £47 million in the summer and big things were expected of the pair.
Thus far both have failed to deliver, though, and have been linked with summer moves away from White Hart Lane.
Both players were originally linked with moves to West Ham before joining Spurs as reported by the Mirror and the Express.
And their lack of impact in North London could give Bilic a second bite at the cherry for players with that all-important Premier League experience.
Things have not gone well for Moussa Sissoko at Spurs
Last week Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier said he thinks Tottenham should offload Sissoko in the summer with Serie A side AC Milan linked.
And despite struggling for goals, Dutchman Janssen has shown flashes of the ability which tempted Pochettino to bring him to the club.
At West Ham, under less pressure he could well flourish.
